Day 5: Hilo...

As I mentioned, Michael fell into a crevice last night, so we spent much of the day trying to find a clinic open that would treat his wounds. But first, we had some amazing chicken adobo for lunch at the Empire Cafe in Hilo. Then, continued our sampling of Big Island ice creams with cones from another store (don't remember the name) before checking out the Hilo Farmer's Market (first 6 photos). Once again met Brian Nussbaum, the sauce guy. Had some delicious banana bread. So much eating! Visited Rainbow Falls Tattoo Shop and talked to tattoo artist, David Ackerman, about possibly getting a happy face spider tattoo to add to my collection of creepy critters. Saw more of the sights in Hilo (next 4 photos) until it was time to take Michael to Hilo Urgent Care Center (last 2 photos). Afterwards, we came home to the hostel and made an outstanding dinner of stir fried eggplant, green pepper, and tofu with Brian's teriyaki sauce over purple sweet potatoes. Also, one yummy mango. Despite oozing leg wounds, life is good!
